Senior Sunday Spotlight: QB Jacob Gumm

We’ve all seen the post on Facebook from parents, most the time it’s an old photo with the #SeniorSunday. Well, we thought what if we take that and make it a spotlight for our local student athletes. So this is the first in our “Senior Spotlight” series, and we couldn’t ask for a better first guest! Montgomery County is coming off a district championship and they return their leading rusher, top 6 receivers, and a 2 year starter at QB. Expectations this season are high for the Indians and we caught up with QB Jacob Gumm, enjoy this edition of our Senior Spotlight!

Let’s start this with the student part? What’s your GPA, and what do you plan on majoring in in college?

Gumm: My GPA is a 3.8, and I plan on majoring in Construction Management.

Are any schools currently looking at you to play football at the college level?

Gumm: Kentucky Christian and Thomas More.

Sophomore season you battled a shoulder injury, junior year you took a step forward and helped lead the team to a district championship, what’s the next evolution of your game for this senior season?

Gumm: It’s definitely making sure I get the most out of myself and more importantly my guys, some of the greats like Tom Brady and Drew Brees were the best at it. Elevating everyone’s game is my biggest goal this season.

District champs last season, what is a team goal you all have established early on for this season?

Gumm: One of our new sayings is “raise the bar.” As a team we’ve interpreted that as, we want to make a playoff run, and that’s something we know we can do. Last year’s first round loss was heartbreaking. With a big group of seniors, this year, we have decided that we won’t go out disappointed this year.

We’ve talked team goals, now what is an individual goal that you have this season?

Gumm: I’ve worked on my abilities as a runner, and I would love to showcase that a lot more this year.
