Senior Sunday Spotlight: Bath County OL Brooks Staton

This week we head to “The Hill” to showcase one of the guys who does it on both sides of the trenches. OL/DL senior Brooks Staton has been a mainstay on the Wildcats line, and he’s looking to help his team improve this season. Here’s what Brooks had to say going into this season, we hope you enjoy!

Brooks, thanks for taking time and doing this. First question we always like to ask is the student part of student-athlete. What’s your GPA?

Staton: 3.5

Are you interested in playing football at the next level? If so, any schools showing interest yet?

Staton: I haven’t made a final decision yet about playing ball after high school. It’s something I’m still thinking about, but if the opportunity came my way, I would definitely consider it.

Coming into your senior season, what’s something you’ve been working on to improve your game?

Staton: This season, I’m focused on pushing myself to become a better lineman, a stronger teammate, and a leader for the underclassmen coming up behind me. There’s always room to grow, and I’m ready to put in the work.

So as a lineman your “stats” don’t show up alot in the paper. As a kid that plays both sides of the ball, do you take more pride in a RB running for 150 yards or holding the opponent to under 100 yards rushing?

Staton: That’s a good question. I honestly take pride in both. As a lineman, it feels great knowing you helped your running back break 150 yards, those are team yards, and we all had a part in that. But holding an opponent to under 100 yards on defense, that shows grit, discipline, and toughness. Either way, it means I did my job and helped my team.

What’s a team goal you all have set early on in practice for this season?

Staton: One of our biggest team goals is to play as one team, no matter what. We want to be disciplined, give 100% every play, and hold each other accountable. Of course, we’re aiming to make it back to the playoffs and go further than last year.

What’s been your favorite memory playing football?

Staton: I have a lot of good memories, but my favorite is when we beat Fleming County last year. We played our hearts out and worked hard for that win.

We can’t wait to get to “The Hill” this season and watch Coach Brewer’s Wildcats take the field! If you have a senior student-athlete that you would like us to showcase, send us a message on the From Corner2Corner Podcast Facebook page or on X @corner2cornerpc!

Until next time,
