Senior Sunday Spotlight: Shaddix Lewis

For the first time in our Spotlight series, we’re heading to Frenchburg! We have been focusing on football players, but this week we’re heading to the soccer field to highlight one of the best strikers in the 16th Region, Shaddix Lewis. Shaddix helped lead Menifee County to a 10-5-2 record last season, and hopes to improve on that this season. We hope you enjoy!

So first thing we always like to start with is the student part of student-athlete. What’s your GPA?

Lewis: “I can’t really remember what it was at the end of junior year but I like to keep it 3.0 or higher.”

What position do you play?

Lewis: “Striker.”

Coming into your senior season you’ve got 50 career goals, how have you been so successful finding the back of the net?

Lewis: “When i step out on the field before a game i like to focus on the end goal and that is to me not winning but performing, i go out to perform and impress all while trying to help my team as well, having played for so long your skills and IQ of the game becomes natural instinct helping me find the goal and ways around defenders, where to be to make the right play, where I need to be and where the ball needs to go.”

What’s something you’ve worked on this offseason that will help your team this season?

Lewis: “Personally I have been working on stamina and strength in my skills, as a team we have been working on team work, passing, and chemistry to be able to work together and dominate on the field.”

You all went 5-1-1 to close out last season, what’s the expectations for this year?

Lewis: “This year we expect to come out even stronger and more dominant. This past Saturday we went to estill for soccerama and faced North Laurel and came out winning 2-1, East Jessamine coming out 2-2 and Bryan station coming out 0-0. With those being very tuff teams from a very well known soccer area and us being able to stick with and even win against them is a great sign for this season. We’re excepting great outcomes.”

What is a piece of advice you would give to younger soccer players?

Lewis: “It’s generic but true, don’t give up, if you started when you were 3 and still have trouble with skills or your not scoring like you feel you should be it’s okay to make mistakes, it’s okay to not be the best every game. For girls and boys starting in middle school or maybe even highschool remember coming out and seeing that there are players that are better and more skilled then you but because they worked for it. No matter the age or time of experience dedication will get you to where you want to be. Always be positive and proud of yourself, set an image for yourself, preform every game/ practice like it’s your last and be able to say at the end of everyday you tried your best.”

We hope you’ve enjoyed this read, and we hope you get out to the Menifee County Sports Complex to watch Shaddix and her teammates play this season. Menifee County opens the season August 12th @ 7:00 PM vs Powell County.

Until next time,
